Check Engine Light

Lately I have been having the check engine light come on randomly. After a few minutes it will go off. When I check all the readings on my Aladdin Jr. everything looks fine. Can anyone tell me the inputs that turn on the Check Engine Light or give me hints on finding the sensor that is triggering the light.

There are many sensors, each has a related "trouble code number". I guess the ALaddin is an analyzer that did not find any codes. Another cause is a loose gas cap. Always turn cap past a few "clicks".

If it comes on an uphill or hard acceleration then it is likely stopped up fuel filters. If it is indeed random you need to check for any codes being thrown by the ECM. If you don't have VMSpc you may need to take to a Cummins shop. Some Monacos are equipped with Diagnostic switches to get blink codes.

I read the sensor for antifreeze level sometimes gives false readings so something to check.

mine did that while pulling hills and it was my fuel filters. Went to cummins they put it on the computer and that's what it was. Very common. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. DtBt are you saying that VMspc will show all the codes that can be read at the diagnostics plug. What is the code for plugged fuel filters or low coolant level.

I would look at getting something like this to keep an eye on your motor.
Just something to think about down the road if you have a laptop this is the way to go for a great set of gauges plus it will do a lot more like spreadsheet, cost around $375

The low coolant is only a warning light AFAIK. It does not interface to the ECM at least on my old 99 ISC engine.
The ECM codes can be found by googling. ISC Fault Codes List- Cummins ECM are the one for an ISC. You might have an ISL. As you can see there are many codes.
When I had plugged fuel filters (algae) it did not throw codes, just intermittent check engine light under hard acceleration.

I didn't notice that this was a cummins? If it's a CAT and check engine light is coming on for fuel filters, it would most likely show Code 6-3 "restricted fuel flow" but it doesn't have to be filters for that. It could be compromised fuel lines (vacuum leak) or fuel return line check valve failure.
