Checking oil

New to me 2007 Caymen 325 cummins. Tried to check oil had a heck of a time getting dipstick out? I stopped after getting it out approx 8" as I felt I wouldn't be able to get back in?

If your dipstick needs to "unscrew" make sure it
is done all the way.
Same with putting it back. Make sure it is in tight so
it will not leak.
