We want to sell our home next year and go full timing. If we were to buy a used 2008 DP with 30K miles how long would the tires last before needing replaced? I am sure the tread would still be good but I know owning a fifth wheel that the tires needed replaced around 5 years because of sidewall cracks.

A 2008 model probably has 2007 tires on it. The mileage is low enough that shouldn't be a concern. The rule of thumb seems to be change out at the 6-7 year range from date of manufacture, regardless of thread depth. That is what I hope to get out of ours.

Ditto. I think Michelin says their MH tires can go 10 years but 7 seems to be the most popular replacement age with most.

Consider all these things.

Motor coach tires are not changed because of wear. They are changed because of internal rot from age. A motor coach tire can look like it is brand spanking new, yet can be rotted on the inside and ready to explode.

Most motor coaches are at their maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. This means that the tire on the front of the motor coach is supporting almost most of its maximum load carrying capacity for all of its lifetime.

I believe that the front tires should be used no more than five years. I believe that the rear tires should be used for no more than seven years.

Since it is obviously a concern for you, why not insist that new tires be part of any deal, or deduct the cost of new tires from what you are willing to pay? Start with new tires. No matter what any of us "experts" say you and your family should feel safe.

From reading these forums for years and owning a Class A a while ago, it appears that most RV tires can go 5-7 years when they need to replaced because of age, not mileage. I agree they can look like they're in good shape (lots of tread and maybe no cracking) yet they'll blow out at the most inopportune time and may do some wheel well damage. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again!

I should have asked this as part of original question, how much approximately will new tires cost for a 40' diesel pusher. I am sure that 6 new tires will be expensive.

Probably a bit north of $400/ea.

Last year when I replaced the cost was from $2400 to $3600 and a couple outliers above. Got my Toyo's at the $2400 level mounted balanced with new stems. Also look around some times you can get $100-$150 a tire for your used tires.

A number of MH manufacturers have "national accounts" with Michelin that enable owners to purchase tires at fleet prices. In addition FMCA has a similar program for members. The price of a tire will vary a bit across all these programs, but it will be significantly lower than available at normal retail pricing (a savings of ~$100/tire).

I used the Monaco program to purchase tires for my Beaver and it applies to any brand name currently in the Monaco family even if the MH was built before Monaco owned that brand.

That's exactly what I did when I bought my 1996 Newmar in May 2011. I was told that the tires on it were almost new and they looked pretty darn good, checked the tire dates and guess what? At least 4 out of 8 tires had a build date of 1996. As part of the deal they installed new tires with a build date of 3/2011.
