City Water/Fill Valve
When I have the valve closed (city water), pressure is low, so we use the water pump. When I turn the valve to fill the tank, the water pump runs very rapidly, like it cannot pressure up. Seems like there is a valve open somewhere that just circulates water back into the tank. I turn off the pump when filling. Is this normal?

Yes its normal. When you switch to tank fill with the pump running, the pump will simply circulate the water through the loop created by the valve until that valve is turned to the city water side.
Do you have to run the pump all the time? Is the city water pressure low? I rarely need to run the pump in m y coach and I was just wondering what situation made you to have to run yours.

Eli, did you check the "check valve" just after the water reel? I had like a small seed stuck in it and it clogged the check valve flow. Did not completely stop flow just slowed it down. When faucets were off pressure would build to normal then when turn on pressure would fall due to slowed flow. Call me next week and we will go check it out...

Also make sure. If you do use a pressure reducer on end of hose or at hose bib, check hose bib some campsites already place a pressure reducer on the bib. This will restrict flow if you add another.

Had a giggle reading this. I replaced the electric city/fill valve with a manual one, and his week was filling the tank using it and turned on the pump. Took me about 10 minutes to work out why the pump wasn't switching off, and why I had really low pressure.
Next up I need to see if I can get the electric fresh tank dump valve to work. This coach came with electric sewer valves, electric fresh dump valve, and electric city/fill valves. None of them ever worked. The best part was the manufacturer of the sewer valves specified that they must only be installed in an up/down orientation, so naturally Monaco installed them horizontally.

The pump will sound like it is running 'very rapidly' because in that configuration you are actually running city water pressure through the pump... i.e., the water is spinning the pump - relieving / eliminating the load on the 12 volt motor.
