cockpit shades

I have power cockpit window shades in my 08 Monaco Sig and the passenger side shade looks like it has a broken string on the inside right side. The right side of the shade is hanging down. I can't find the make of shade nor anything on how to fix. Have any of you ever worked on this type shade or know the make used in Signature?

The same thing happened to the power shade on my 05 Ambassador. What happens is the mounts are made of plastic and they crack over a period of time. The manf. (best I can remember was Carefree) will not sale the mounts sepetate from the motor. A $3 part cost $250 to peplace. I took mine down and manuf. brackets out of stainless steel. Used a stainless radiator hose clamp and reinstalled. Works great and cost less than $5. You have to remove the shade and use a little imagination.

Roscoesdad,
I checked Carefree site but they don't show a Power shade, are you referring to the black pull down sun screen? I have that also and my broke. I had to take that apart and rebuild...you're right, a little ingenuity goes a long way.

I still need some info on the power cockpit shade used in the Monaco Sig

I checked and it is built by Carefree. http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/do...0Sidevisor.pdf I had no luck in purchasing the replacement ends and brackets. I was ver disappointed in their refusal to sell a plastic part and instead wanted to sell motor and part as a unit.

Just wait til you try to get them to 'goodwill' a new awning motor when the original was less than ONE MONTH out of warranty. (sorry, off-topic)

MCD had a recall on their front windshield brackets, but they are made of metal. The recall called for more brackets so the shade wouldn't fall down while you are driving. NO CHARGE FOR LABOR OR PARTS. deSanford

That's the difference between MCD and Carefree. Mine fell down while driving. Guess I should have run off the road and totaled my MH. Think they would appreciate a good lawsuit. I doubt they care. After all they are Carefree.

Sorry folks,
I misidentified my shades that I'm having a problem with. It would be more properly id'd as my nightime privacy shade. I do also have the Carefree shade Roscoe is referring to and I'm also repaired that one myself in the past.
But this on I'm having a problem with is the Monaco Signatures privacy shade, which is actually 6 shades that together close off my cockpit windows at night. The one I'm having a problem with is the psngr window shade, one side appears to have broken string that controls the up and down on that side of shade. Can't find the manufacturer?

I would advise anyone with http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/do...0Sidevisor.pdf power shades, remove them and inspect the brackets holding the shades to the ceiling. My drivers side fell while driving and I tied it up using wire ties until I could fabricate a fix. I removed the passenger side unit this morning and the brackets on both side were cracked and ready to break. It is no fun driving down the Interstate and that thing falling down into your line of sight. Very poor construction of the brackets.

Billsmax, according to Monaco those white pleated privacy shades that come down electrically across the windshield and side front windows were made by a small company that has now shut down. If they cannot be rethreaded with new string then a replacement unit similiar can be purchased from MCD out of Fort Worth.

Billsmax,
I had the same problem with one of the front shades in my Sig. The string didn't actually break, but came loose and allowed one side to droop. Luckly I was in Sevierville, TN (home to the 2012 National iRV2 Rally) when it happened. I called Ricky at Ricky's RV Repair and he came out and took the shade apart and fixed it. That was two years ago and it's been better than new since...

cb5300,
Funny that you mention Sevierville....I spent 2 nights there 2 days before my shade when bad. Bad timing on my part.
I've decided to order some new string and a needle and try to fix this myself.

Thanks all

Bill, next time you plan on going to Sevierville let me know and Martha and I will try to meet up with you. We really like that area and try to visit it 4 or 5 times a year. We are only about 3 hrs and 45 min. from there.

What camp ground do you usually stay at?
