Coolant filter shut off valve?
We have a 2003 ISC 8.3 with a coolant filter.
I need to know what way the shut off valve is open?
Thanks

I never heard of an ISC so I assume you did like I often do and fat finger the keyboard and ment ISX, so I'm replying how to do it on an ISX.

There are a ton of RVs, trucks, off-road equipment and generators with the Cummins ISC in them. It's a derivative of the 6C8.3 designed in 1985. The ISL replaced it in motor homes in the early 2000s.
I speak from experience, use the lever on the oil filter side as its more robust than the lever on the water filter side. You are likely to cause a leak if you use the later. The valve assembly isn't expensive, I paid $152 for it in 206, but you have to drain antifreeze if you have to replace it.

I meant to add this also. The ISX may be different based on F239141 response.

Good grief.
The Cummins C and ISC are some of the more popular and common Cummins engines.

From my research ppl have broken the valve using a wrench on the wrong side as it is easy to get to. The lever between the water filter and oil filter is the strong or "more robust" side of the valve assembly.
You can see it in the pic

Remember " backup " back side of valve goes up. Up side goes back . Depending if opening or closing.
I read about valves but didn't see them there first time I change filter before bringing MH home. I didn't loose too much coolant on M11.. I spotted valves once the filter was off . luckily free enough to use one hand made me feel system was cared for, the SCA levels were in the middle of chart as well .I put about 30-40 hrs labor and inspecting before taking out of PO barn.

if you change your coolant to the life time coolant all you have to do is replace the old SCA canister with a blank one purchased at any Cummins dealer and never have to worry about it again. I got my coolant at Cummins and it was about the same price as the cheap stuff at a parts store. Hope this helps. Peter in Maine.

This is a newer model, the old one looks very similar, but the black knobs on this one replaced a lever and knob on the original. The knob was between the coolant and oil filter, but not accessible with the oil filter installed. They are in the same place on both.
