Nice to see you chime back in

After my last post, we found someone to take a quick look at the dash AC, and confirmed what you all thought - the AC compressor is seizing up. He didn't have the parts, and we didn't have the time to wait for the work anyway, so we continued on our way and lived with no dash AC.

Ouch

I've decided to get the roof AC replaced (as I don't believe it's fixable),

Smart move. Ive just BTDT and paid $ 1.5k for the service because I didnt have the ability to do so with 5 pins in one shoulder and the other to be repaired in the near future.

but while in NY was unable to find anyone who could get the parts I needed in time. So we are on our way home, driving early morning (4am) and taking a break in the afternoon if it gets too hot. the family is spending a lot of time in the back bedroom where the AC works.
Once I'm home I'll get the roof AC unit, new thermostat and updated control board for the old back AC and attempt the replacement myself. When I end up failing I'll call in a professional.

The dash AC will remain broken for the foreseeable future as I can't afford to fix both right now.

Buy a a/c compressor kit kit and with that also buy a in line filter that installs before the compressor the folk that sell you the kit will be able to help you. As fas as I.D.ing the compressor get some good hi res pics to show the parts people and there will also be a number stamped on the compressor somewhere.

before the trip and during the trip I've had techs look at the radiator fan and everything checks out fine despite the small damage to the one blade. looks worse in the photo than in person.

FYI The techs are WRONG and the edge of you fan is causing a unbalance issue and no matter how small it is?.... only a matter of time before it becomes and issue and will most likely be way more than just a fan replacement issue when it rears it's ugly head.

Install that NEW not a reman a/c compresssor (not a reman compressor ) kit yourself you can do it.

It might be a 6 pack job but you can handle this trust me.

Once installed if you dont have the proper a/c equipment find your local reputable a/c guys ( auto guys can do your coach chassis a/c with no problem) and have them evacuate the a/c system and add a couple of ounces of the proper refrigerant oil. The a/c compressor will have a oil I.D. tag on it in the box and then re-charge the unit and your good to go.

Just to be redundant. What happens in many cases and the very reason for many compressor catastrophic failures is that DYI guys add refrigerant and DO NOT add a/c lubricant and they also do not pull a vacuum on the system to remove any excessive moisture. Doing the DYI procedure of adding refrigerant every now without adding oil and then will take it’s toll on the a/c compressor but yes it does take some time to do so …… kind of like the fan blade issue you have in the pic ..it’s not a matter of if?....it’s a matter of when.

IMO do not buy a re-man compressor unless you want to do the job more than one.. there is very little difference in price ….and lots in the quality

thanks again everyone for your input and help.
Happy Hunting
