Dash Air Won't Blow Refrig Air

I think I am in the right forum because I am dealing with a HR Detroit 60 series dash A/C mounted unit on the engine. It will blow lots of air just not cold air. I have already charged the system with Freon and the compressor will turn on when it has the proper lubricant and Freon pressure. It very quickly loses the charge and the compressor will turn off as a safety measure. Any ideas from anyone especially those with this a/c and engine set-up?

Did you change the Dryer , they get blocked and will affect your cooling.

Well it would appear that you have a leak in the system somewhere. What I would recommend doing is going to a auto parts store and buying some UV glasses, a UV light and some UV dye to put in the system. You will probably have to waste some freon in doing it. I find freon the cheapest at Walmart. It would also help to put some gauges on the system and see what the high side and low side pressures are. Even when totally fixed it is still a piss poor system. I put gauges on my system and found the high side and low side the same pressure and had to change the expansion valve. The valve was only $45 and I also replaced the receiver/dryer.

If you are talking about the air dryer, yes that was just changed by RV Lube. How do you put UV dye in to the system? At the two screw caps on the hoses??

The UV dye comes in what looks like a small freon can you you connect it to the low pressure fitting. It is best to put the dye in and run it for a short time then view it at night. You have to have the special glasses or it just don't show up.

Thanks Mike,
I will check at the local auto parts stores for the product and UV glasses. That is a great idea. I'll post what I find out and the fix. DW wants dash a/c working this summer!

The air dryer is for the brakes. The receiver/dryer is for the dash air conditioning system. Same word, but each system has their own dryer. A/C receiver/filter/dryer is usually serviced when the A/C system has been compromised, like a freon leak or a compressor replacement.

The A/C DRYER deteriorates over time and will greatly reduce cooling, if there is no apparent freon leak, I would have the dryer changed by an A/C tech.

Wow Folks Thanks!

I will check out both areas ; the leak first then the A/C dryer at my RV dealer. Speaking of good RV Dealers in Texas / here's a good one! New Dealership:
No waiting for appointments / repairs made while you wait / easy to get into with big rigs. www.agorv.com Ask for Don Bloom
