On my 2007 Monaco Knight when I turn on the key to start the engine, the gauges all appear OK. After the engine starts, all of the gauges go completely off for a few seconds. Power to the Alladin jr also goes off and it begins to cycle down. After a few seconds, all gauges and the computer come back on with no further problems.

Is there any possibility that this is normal as was hinted by the dealer? If it is, it's just weird. If it's not, I'd like to be ready for the dealer if it doesn't get fixed. Thanks for any comments.

Interested in hearing the answer too. My 07 HR Neptune does the same thing.

I would call Monaco Service center. I also have a 2007 Knight and have not had that problem.

Henry......When I start my coach cold....the engine grid heater comes (huge amp draw) and causes my dash volt meter to drop to zero. You may have a similar issue coupled with a bad dash ground.

Mine only occurs when engine is cold. Heater doesn't come on cause issue when hot.

Henry,
Ours does the same thing. Techs at Wildwood service center said it was normal operation for the engine computer to be resetting itself. I ignore it now as it has never caused a problem. It comes to life quickly enough I can see the oil pressure before any damage would occur.

I have to agree with Our Time as ours does the same thing and all indicators are up in about two seconds or so.

I'm gonna have to go with DipDon here.

It just may be that it's supposed to do that, but I've never heard of an engine computer resetting itself while running nor one that would blank out for any period of time.

Having a bad ground or poor connection seems more likely, as the grid heater does draw a large amount of power right after start-up.

The engine & computer is a Cummins product, what have they said about it?

I've linked this to the Cummins Forum, There may be other folks with a similar issue or solution.

Thanks!

Alpine APEX 40 MDTS - ISL 400 - all my guages do the following when I turn the key ON.

A few beeps - guages all go to max, i.e., speed, temp, oil pres high, etc, - it beeps again - all guages go dead for 1 second - guages go back to normal start position. Then I start engine, wait until oil pressure has come up and stabilized, the engage fast idle for 3 minutes like the manual says. Your guage operation sounds normal to me.

Have a load test put on each battery individually. It sounds like you have at least one weak battery. As previuosly stated, voltage can go low when starting especially if one or more batteries are going south.
