I am far from a microwave specialists but I have fixed a few by replacing the fuse. The cover has to be removed to reach the fuse. Usually the fuse is on the side where the power cord comes into the cover. The fuse is special. It is not glass but covered in something that looks like asbestos. This is a easy job.

Ditto, I had a repair man out to fix my home micro and he removed the front as ga traveler said and replaced the fuse, it was located on back wall. Good luck

The fuses are encased in ceramic. They are pretty much the same as the glass fuses. The writings on the end need to match with volts and amps. The downside to the ceramic fuse is you cant look at it and tell if its blown.

Loose connections in the fuse holder and wires right there, can cause the fuse to heat up and draw more amps, and blow.

I do not know where the fuses are in these units, But when it died, can have a bearing on why it died. Microwaves have a specific sequence of operations and door switches designed to blow the fuse if the microwave circuit was trying to make microwaves when the door was open. That said, I would replace the fuse and see what happens. Dont try to operate the machine with any covers not on.

Good luck

It's a sharp r-1850, has not had a lot of use, but it's 22 yrs old.
Do I need to remove the microwave to get to fuse ?

I don't think you need to remove the microwave to get to the fuse but you need to be careful removing the upper plastic cover. I broke some tabs on mine and it doesn't "clip" back into place now.

Behind that cover is a screw that holds the touch panel in place. I would think you would find the fuse on the board inside.

No expert here but I replaced the lamps and the cover is (unfortunately) off.

Best wishes for easy fix.

Page 29 of the manual suggests you must remove the unit from the wall and then remove the cover.

They recommend two people to remove it and I agree. Had to remove my Sharp 1850 to fix a "Run 59 seconds then stops" problem.

That baby is heavy and you definitely need two people.

Here's a video showing the replacement of the fuse on a Whirlpool. Hope it helps.

If the R1850 is similar to the R1874, there is a fuse behind the control pad.

Remove the top air grill, one screw at the top of the control pad, then lift the control pad an inch, and it will come out.

If it's just this fuse blown (which I doubt), it can be replaced without dropping the oven.
