Dinghy towing guide

Question we have a 2001 blazer, the Motorhome dinghy towing guide for a 2001 Blazer shows a curb weight of 4049 lbs, the sticker on the door of our Blazer shows a weight of 5350 lbs. We have a hitch on our Holiday Rambler that is a 4000 lb hitch. So which weight do we go by?

I think I'd go weigh it at a truck scale.

Probably should weigh your coach while you are there.

Looks like you are over the recommended weight for your hitch in either case.

If you are planning on flat towing your Blazer, you will have almost zero weight on the hitch !

The 5,350lb weight is your Blazer's GVW - maximum allowed weight of vehicle and its load. When you go and weigh it (with a full tank of gas), if they won't let you get out of the vehicle, you can subtract your weight from the total. It is probably well over 4,000lbs.

If the hitch on your RV is only rated for 4,000lbs, you can't legally tow your Blazer because the hitch is the weakest link in the chain. Perhaps you can put a stronger hitch on your HR? You'll need to find out from the manufacturer if that is an option. Some RVs have frame extensions behind the rear axle and the long overhang is a weak point and means you cannot tow more weight even with an upgraded hitch.
Good luck!

They will have a 4000-5000lb vehicle attached to the hitch. Doesn’t matter if it’s zero or 500 pounds of tongue weight.

Those dingy guides are obsolete the day they are printed

As stated, spend the $10 or so at a cat scale to KNOW:
