Dometic Fridge Error 13

I have a 2008 Monaco Diplomat SKQ which means the fridge is in the front curbside slide out. Just got an error message 13 indicating that the heating element in the fridge drain is not working. Coach is in Palm Springs, CA and it doesn't look like I can get a technician out until next week (no one available Saturday of Sunday).

Is there any danger to running the fridge until I can get it repaired?

Thanks.

Hi BHEMOTH,
Based on where the coach is located, gut feel says just run it.

The heating element is a very thin, very flat multi-S-shaped piece of wire acting as a resistor, enclosed in some type of plastic insulator. It fits down into the drain hole. Dometic has a new part number. They must know of the defect and may have a new part.

isn't that a norcold fridge?
our 08 knight 40skq, 4 door side by side fridge in front of pass side slide, is a norcold.

Our coach has the Dometic 1402 in it. The only problem you will have is it won't defrost properly and after a few weeks you will have a ice build up. If you elect to change the element yourself it is a very tedious job in a very cramped space. Caution, the heating element is very fragile.

The refer will run fine except for the ice buildup that was previously described. You list your coach as an '08 so I think the refer should be under warranty. It would be a difficult DIY project.

Thanks for the help everybody, problem solved. Defrosted the fridge, ran some warm water down the drain reset the fridge. All seems to be well - at least for now.

We had the same defrosting problem with our 1402. The picture shows the result.
I got mad at it.

The fix = Samsung.

We are following Drifters lead ... ordered a new Samsung yesterday. There must be lots of demand for this particular unit as we cannot get delivery until 3/11. We cannot wait to get rid of our "NoCold"

I have the same problem again (2nd time). I have been defrosting the drain tray with a hair dryer every few days for the past two months, when you do this the error code will go away and the temp numbers will return but only for a short time. I found the element on line ($95.00) And will put it in today....Bruce

I know these posts are old but they apply even today to my Dometic 2009 NDA1402. Same issue with a Call code 13. I used a hair dryer to free the code at the freezer spot and set up with a mechanic to get and install the element. I don't want to do this job given that i have extended warranty insurance - thank you US Warranty, thus far the best ever I have come accross!!!!!!
