door issues, my turn

I have been in and out of my Patriot Thunder almost every day without issue and today it unlocks just as always but the door will not unlatch and release, I got in through the drivers window, but still no joy. I was able to remove the deadbolt, but it is not the issue. Any tips to get this thing to unlatch, I think it is the lower pin.

Well my better half was able to get in through the driver window snd between the 2 of us, it finally opened. The inner locking sliding latch is VERY hard to slide back and forth. When I used the key it would not turn either dirrection, we are using the deadbolt to secure it. temps here are in the 20"s, I adjusted it last spring and used white lithium on the linkages, I wonder if the problem is the low temperatures, will get into the entire mechanism when it warms up since I can still use the deadbolt.

Maybe the Lithium got stiff due to the cold?

Here is some information from previous issues that might help in the future

Thanks YC1, I am going to try spaying a bit of electronic cleaner on the interior of the latch mechanism when we get to a balmy 37 degrees later! I also will try out the electronic keypad again, I am wondering if the solenoid is failing or has quit, if so then see if I can locate a replacement. I think my bay doors use the same style and I know one is also inoperative. Joys of these Legacy coaches.

Went out and pulled off the small inner panel where the mechanism resides, when I use the exterior keypad control, it latches the outer bays, also works to unlock those bays, however the exterior door actuator does not respond to either the lock or unlock controls. I looked through the front drivers side electrical bay, the respective wires and connections are tight, no idea if there is a separate fuse for this system and where it could be located. I wonder if anyone has an idea about where I can obtain a replacement actuator for this front door mechanism?

If it is the front door actuator you may try cleaning the two spring contacts on the door and frame. If they don't make a good connection the actuator may not work.

This is what mine basement doors use,

Thanks for the info jacwjames, that looks like my door actuator, it is completely inoperable today, I will clean the contacts tommorrow, been hesitant to pull the inner door panel due to low temps last several weeks, and panel is old plastic composition. Maybe I will use a heat gun to warm up that part of the panel so I can get the actuator out to test it with direct 12v connection. You guys are the source of amazing knowledge!

Door actuator only is for the lock/unlock. So if the door was locked and won't unlock then it could be the actuator. Should be able to put power on it to test.

If you can't open the door via the handle and it is unlocked you will have to adjust the linkage. Several places it could be out of adjustment. I adjusted mine in 2019 after I could open the door via the handle. Worked fine until last month and started getting hard to open again. Went in and made one adjustment on the linkage, turning the long extension nut just one turn and now it opens with a slight pull with one finger.

Turned out to be the white lithium spray lube was congealed due to the cold. I was able to get the actuator to run each direction with a 12volt direct to door pin set-up. I then pulled the inner panel and sat inside while wife ran the electronic keypad outside. The actuator locked vigorously, but ran into trouble trying to retract linkage to unlock. cleaned of the white lithium with electronic spray cleaner, and walaa" it runs just fine now. I will try to get some clear dry lube to redo lightly when warms up again. Appreciate the feedback communication, sometimes just need an idea to approach problems with different direction. Might also order replacement actuator"just in case".

That's interesting!

I also sprayed my linkage down with white lithium lube this spring while I had the door opened for rod adjustment.

Is there an instruction sheet on this adjustment? My door only opens if I yank on the handle! My wife has difficulty opening it.

Yes there is a you tube video showing how to adjust both latch linkages, upper and lower. They need to have the same latch forces, I adjusted mine last spring, the outer portion of the inner door panel has to be pulled away from door to allow access to the adjustment nuts. I ended up needing to adjust the lower nut about half a turn down in order to get both latches to be synchronized. I then used white spray lithium grease on the linkages, looks like I well need to clean it off entirely and go to a spray silicone lube. Look up Monaco front door adjustment video's.

We've had a lot of trouble with our door opening. Seems like it only likes to open if it is leveled (not necessarily "level") a certain way. Otherwise we have to push on the door near the lock while trying to open it. Always happens when we have our hands full. do you think that might be a linkage problem.
