I have a 2007 Monaco Diplomat. In the DS front electrical compartment there is a large black box with 3 wing nuts that hold the cover on. On the inside lower left corner is a solenoid or relay. I have searched but cannot find what it controls. I am having 12v flickering. This solenoid/relay is getting to 145 degrees.

Update: Lost all 12v power. I checked the solenoid/relay, I have 12v on right large lug, 12v on both small lugs and 0 volts on left large lug.

This solenoid is part of the "salesman's" switch on your dash by the door. They go bad on a regular basis. Simply tie the two large wires together, by putting both on the same side of the solenoid or by removing both wires bolting them together and taping them so the do not touch anything. This will restore your 12 volt power. Good luck!

Very common problem. Do as Chuck48 says. If you do a search on Salesman switch you will find lots of posts on this subject. The salesman switch is at the front door entry and allows sales people to turn off the majority of the 12 VDC loads to reduce battery drain when the coach is on a lot or in a show room. A mostly worthless feature for the owner. We have owned our coach for seven years and the solenoid for the salesman switch went bad in the first year. It has been bypassed every since. After connecting the two large cables together leave the switch at the door in the off position so the solenoid coil will not waste power and produce heat.

I just went through that. We were in Blanding, Utah. My 12v lights were flickering and finally failed. I would have had to bring a tech from who knows were to find and fix the problem.

This forum came to my rescue. Yes, that solenoid is connected to the salesman's switch. I removed the solenoid and tied the three red wires together with a nut and bolt and wrapped the connection with tape. Cut and taped small wire that goes back to the switch. The three cables were stiff enough that I'm not concerned about them shorting out to anything else in the box.

Some suggested putting all three wires on one of the solenoid terminals. I just didn't seem to have enough slack on one of the cables to do that.

Solenoid is disconnect switch..It is open.. Box is our Battery Control Center

NOTE:12 volts OR Zero volts on both small lughs is normal for ONE TYPE of solenoid (Either one) but not for another.

So you need to test.. Here is how.

Step one: Connect a small lamp across the small terminals I like to use a blade type Licnse Plate socket and extend the leads out.

Lamp should be dark (Same voltage both terminals)

Activate USE/STORE (Aux battery or salesman switch) Lamp should light, Either way you toggle lamp should light.

IF this happens... then you have a magnetic latching solenoid same as I do (intelletec BCC)

IF nto.... You have a different problem Fix it first.
