Dumb Question
I have read on several forums including this one about trouble with slide out cables. My question is does my diplomat have these cables? It has what appears to be a gear drive track mounted to the bottom of each slide with a drive motor and gear box. Is this the only mechanism that operates the slide?

It does not sound by your description, that you have cables.Look at the front and back ends of your slides and if you have cables there should be one on the top and one on the bottom of the end of each slide .There may be other kinds of slides with cables but not that I am aware of. ......Alan

We have a 2006 Diplomat with four slides and none of them are cable driven. I suspect you do not have any cable driven slides.

My rig has 3 slides. All "rack & pinion" (no cables).

I haven't seen a cable system on a Class A Diesel Pusher. Doesn't mean there aren't any, but what you describe is exactly what our slides have and they are a rack system with gears and an electric motor to drive them in and out.

Based on all the feedback I'd say I don't have cables! Thanks for the input.

Let me put it this way.. IF you had cables. And you have EVER put the slides out, You would not be asking if you have them.
(You can clearly see 4 of them per slide when extended, There are 4 more you can't see)

If you have only 3 cables, then you have one that`s broke -- 2 on each side -- It has 8 cables in all -- The 4 on the inside you don`t see till you take the face off the slide -- Bill Willard

If your slide has 3 cables I think you may have a problem as there probably should be 4. Unless of course you have an odd slide....Alan Well actually there should be 8 . 4 are visible with the slide out and 4 should be visible with the slide in.

I see mine with the slide in, one up top, one near the bottom.
"guessin" there are 2 more on the backside of the slide, can't get into the bedroom with the slides in to find out, haha.
That slide doesn't have much in it, and only extends maybe 18". it works in a very quick and positive manner, not like the big 32" extension front drivers side slide, I always wonder if that one will make it out.... and then I wonder if it will make it in. It's a flush floor slide, so besides being huge, it has a 3" hill to climb.
But I digress.....
for the job it has to do, our 1 cable slide works very well.
