Duo Therm Heat Pump?ac

Hello everyone, I need to know if anyone can tell me what the difference in the series number of the heat pump/ac is.
651516.301CO
651516.301DO
651516.301JO
I'm going to replace a rear AC unit that failed on my coach and go from a 13500 BTU unit to 15000 BTU. If anyone has done this and would like to advise me I would be grateful. If anyone knows of a really good deal on these units this would be helpful also.
Thanks Steve

Steve this is a post I posted in july 2010

I installed a new Dometic mod# 641516 15,000 AC about a month ago to replace my 13,500 heat pump and it has a pretty loud whine that is coming from the air intake (loud enough that you have trouble staying up front or watching TV up front) I have been into the fan intake side cant find anything, I have had it at a dealer he could not find the trouble and I have pull it off two times double checking the installation cant find anything. I called Dometic and they acted like they had never heard of the problem since they redesigned the old metal fan housing to the new plastic housing, I found out that was not so as this has been going on for a while and 3 others on one of the forums has the problem and one had 3 units installed until he found one that whined low enough that he could live with, Is anyone here having this problem? It makes the noise on all three speeds and as loud on low as it is on hi speed .

I could never solve the high whine and finally got someone to help me after over 20 calls and talking to them at the FMCA Rally in Perry, in April 2011 (i think) they approved a replacement back to the 13,500 heat pump and that solved our high whine and believe me it was so bad my wife could not stay in the front of the coach where the AC was when it was on, just make sure they have the whine solved.

They never admitted they had a problem. It could be solved now but this is just a heads up so you could check.

I replaced a Dometic 13,500 unit with a 15,000btu a few months ago. My motor home had the old 4 button Duo-Therm thermostat, so I had to upgrade the thermostat and the control board in the other AC. Your 2003 should already have the new 5 button thermostat system, so it should be a simple R&R. I would email the Dometic Tech folks with the model number of your old AC and ask for the replacement 15K heat pump model number.
customersupportcenter@dometicusa.com

Also, one of the hardest tasks is lifting the new AC onto the roof. I tried to find a forklift, but finally had a strong friend climb about half way up the ladder and I handed it to him and he lifted it onto the roof.

High whine

Thanks Vito and Walt, I'm also interested if they solved the noise problem?

It's been winter, so I have only operated it enough to test everything. So far, it does not whine.
The new design is lighter than the old ones. Lots of plastic where the early ones were metal.

Vito, Walt, I talked to the support people. I found out that they don't manufacture the part numbers that I posted. The new units AC/Heat Pumps require a circuit board kit to use with the newer units when you have more that one ac on the same thermostat. The reversing valve works opposite of the older units. I have the part numbers now I have to go shopping!!!
AC/Heat pump 15000 BTU 651816CXX1CO
Conversion kit 3313107.107
Anybody know where the best deals are?
Steve

I forgot to mention that if I can get the old part numbers, no kit is required

Possible that the duct work was sized for the smaller unit. By going to a larger unit the air flow was too high for that duct size, that would give you more noise and possibly a whine.

Steve,

If I understand you correctly, the new heat pump comes with the new board, but you have to retrofit the old heat pumps with a new control board?

That was not the problem Mr D as the older units with metal did not whine, it was or is a design problem with the new type plastic fan box hopfully they have solved it because you wont get them to admit there ever was a whine problem or at least I couldn't.

Vito not but Steve but the new AC's comes with a different type control board in the AC that takes the new 5 button comfort control or wall unit that replaces the old 4 button.
