Dynasty air compressor cycling

Having an issue with being able to maintain air pressure system on 2007 Dynasty with 400 Cummins.
Had an air leak and had the air dryer changed. It seemed to work OK and put about 100 miles on it this past weekend. When I parked last night and was cooling down I noticed the air compressor was cycling on/ off at 110 PSI. This morning started the engine and pressure would not build past 80 PSI and continued to cycle on/off. I called the mechanic who changed the air dryer and he came with a new regulator, installed it and it made no difference.
I limped it to the shop with the help of external compressor.
The shop feels that the unloading valve inside the compressor is not funtioning and require s the complete change out of the air compressor. Has anyone had this type of thing happen? I have talked to a few long haul truckers and hadn't had compressor issues with many 100000's of miles on their rigs.

"The Shop" sounds like they are big on parts replacement and short on any real diagnostic knowledge. They are using the diagnosis by elimination method. When they start talking about pulling the compressor, that's going to get expensive.

This is just my own opinion but I think I'd get it to a Cummins qualified repair facility before I let "the shop" arbitrarily pull the compressor. So far they've changed out the Air Dryer and the Governor (regulator?) and have not fixed the problem. But I'm sure you've been charged for the parts and probably the labor. In other words they've replaced parts you didn't need because they still haven't fixed the problem. These guys do not make me feel very confident in their abilities.

Just my 2 cents...

Dynasty Air Compressor

I had a problem like this a few weeks ago, would not build pressure above 30psi. It was the unloader valve that is in the compressor. Cummins shop replaced the compressor head. as that is the part where the unloader valve is. It is sold as an assembly about $700.00 + labor.
Not near as big a job as changing the compressor. They had the part in stock
