There is a large rectangular metal box fluid reservoir at the passenger side of the engine compartment that I can’t identify. Fluid is above the hose in and out but not by much.

Like he said, but I'm not guessing, �� it's the hydraulic resivoir. It can have atf, hydraulic oil or engine oil in it. Hydraulic oil is clearer than engine oil, trans is red. Dont dare mix them.
Side note a lot of hyd jack systems. The jack down alarm is based on a level switch in reservoir .One jack down 6" should set off alarm, telling you not to drive. Too full and no alarm jacks down equal to one jack down 6" ...but consult owners manual not all are same.
Your leveling jacks are a completely different system. That reservoir pump system is probably up front under and behind your entry steps. The reservoir in question is dedicated to the power steering and cooling fan hydraulic motor. DEX III
