Hi. Do you have 6 - 12V batteries or 6 - 6V batteries? A fully charged 6V battery is 7.5V.

okay.

Check the voltage on engine start batteries. How old are they?

Turn off your solar when you check them. I think the solar is feeding them. That's why your getting good power readings during day and low voltage at night.

There should be someway to turn it off at the controller, but I don't know specifically about your's. If you don't have the manual, either google it, or post make and model here and someone might know.
You would want to turn them off before you worked on your batteries anyway.

Okay....

So chassis batteries are less than 6 months old.

They read (disconnected)- 13.15 & 13.16

6- 6V House batteries disconnected read from 6.53 to 6.55

Aladdin Battery Volts read 12.7V

Inverter reads 13.3V

on your post earlier, you said aladdin was at 7.5 volts in the evening (I'm assuming sun is down and no solar gain). If that is correct and they are 7.5 volts, something is wrong with those batteries. Something doesn't add up.

Bill,

That's why I am frustrated! It doesn't make sense.

So after you asked me to look at the solar. I read the manual and adjusted the dip switches to what the settings should be.

But we have never had this problem.

So during the day everything reads as normal. Only at night the aladdin shows a difference the inverted shows everything normal.

Disconnected all batteries

chassis batteries (6 months old/sealed)

checked voltage

House batteries

checked voltage
load checked
water check

and I can see by the aladdin readout that the solar is working as far as charge and discharge when the sun is up. But it has never shown the batteries in the negative readout before.

I did have to change the charge controller dip settings to lead acid batteries as well as to equalization charge from float charge. Did this according to what the manual recommended.

Do you think when they had the power spike and the progressive tripped (error code was open ground) that it could have affected a a sensor or something?

Thanks,

Brian

The progressive should have protected the system. Is it a portable or hardwired unit? Did you ever get the open ground issue resolved?

Bill,

Hardwired

Yes they checked and everything with the pedestal is fine. And yes I assume the progressive did its job.

I am assuming also that if there was a ground issue right now the progressive would have shut power off?

Thanks,

Brian

Yo Bill,

Good News!!!!! It seems to be back to normal (so far).

My current reading this evening is 12.5V had been reading in the 7's.

I think the only change was after you inquired about the solar and I read through the manual. I changed the charge settings and so far so good.

Thank You ALL!!!!

Brian

Wow. Great that you are back to normal. Yes, open grounds can do strange things to electrical equipment. Stan
