From high school to retirement , automotive electrical made up the majority of my job , with 14 years of Dodge/Cummins work thrown in at the end for good measure.

Glad your up and running , hope the fuses blowing was a one off glitch and not a sign of a wiring issue .
IF they blow again , there can be issues with the wiring harness going up the column to the switch and the wiring can be effected by using the ; tilt /telescopic functions of the column.

Thanks. I did take the shroud from around the column and tried to ensure a good ground. Did not have a tester as suggested, so ergo, a trip to the parts store. I will check again when we a parked.

12 volt test light and a VOM, ( Volt , Ohm , Meter ) You don't need to spend a fortune , but you should have both. Light $7 , VOM $20 ish.
I'd show you a picture of what I carry; for electrical ; but you'd just shake your head.
