Engine hatch cover vents

So on my 42' Camelot the engine hatch has the two vents. They are cut out rather small, about 3/4" wide. I see in pictures of the same model they have the entire bottom of the vent cut out on most. I was going to cut mine out larger to see if it would help with heating issues, and also just help get the heat out of the bedroom and engine area in general.

Has anyone else noticed this or cut their vent hole larger. Here is a picture I found today and the vents are cut out much larger than mine are.

No photo in your post. Where are these vents? From the engine compartment to the RV interior or somewhere else? My engine 'box' has no vents and actually has gaskets to prevent any engine air, heat, or odors from entering the bedroom area. I'd consider it a fire hazard to vent from the engine area into the bedroom.

Are you talking about the engine hatch on the rear of the coach?

If so, there are a couple places to get new ones. Elete RV (541) 995-4767 but pricey at over $1k

Also Tri Metal (541) 864-9167. Last time I checked they wanted $375 + shipping or 475/powder coated.

I probably used the wrong term. I’m talking about the rear engine cover on the outside rear of the bus.

I can’t get photo to load. [IMG][/IMG]

Well there they are. You can see in the one photo the bottom of the vent is cut out completely over 2” wide. Mine is cut under an inch wide. It just seems like so much heat just gets trapped up in there. These are just photos from RVTrader of busses for sale.
