Entry Door Swing Arm
I need to do something about the entry door swing Arm on our 2005 HR Ambassador. I can replace it but I know it's a bad design. Anyone have suggestions for an alternative?

Following.
Mine has loosened up in all 3 pivot points. It drops just enough to catch the door when it closes.

I installed a gas strut and couldn’t be happier ! No more slamming door when a slight gust happens !

I actually disagree that it is a bad design. The problem is the rivet used to hold the two arms together was too soft.
Elite RnR in Harrisburg replaced the rivet with one made from harder steel and it has worked extremely well. It doesn't sag, stops the door, and holds it open. It has been 5 years since they replaced it, and it continues to perform. The original didn't work after a couple of years, so I think this is a winner.

Agree that it is a simple, effective design and a re-peening or replacement of the rivets is all it would take to repair. Cannot comment on the quality of the rivets originally used, but the problem described is consistent with worn pivot points.

Maybe I’m luckier than most but in 16 years as half timers I had to bend up the end that sticks out in the middle... 2 times. With the door half open it’s easy to bend it up a little with a pipe wrench... doesn’t take much and I have not tighten the rivets. Your mileage may vary.

Nothing like the smooth opening with the piston replacement.
It is an easy mod. I recommend a 10-15 lb rod. Buy a spare if you full time.

I've seen this and I have to say I'm impressed. I think I'll go ahead and make the modification. Good suggestion on the spare.
