Exhaust Brake

Our 2003 Monaco Camelot when using the exhaust brake after the unit slows down and I turn off the brake the transmission gears down and just creeps long. I have to shut down the rv and restart to get the transmission to become normal again. Has anyone had this problem?.

Ours is a 2011 with the 425hp cummins, and the brake is named ENGINE brake
some have exhaust brakes, some have engine brakes...

not sure I'm understanding what the issue is...
are you worried you have a tranny issue or ....?

are you turning the brake on and off all the time ?
some never use it, some use it sometimes, and others leave it on always...
I'm in the last camp and so as long as I am picking up speed or steady state on cruise, the brake is never activated and all works as it should...

when decelerating, the tranny downshifts to slow us down much faster...

but I can always just give it a little throttle to override it to keep up speed.

I rarely turn the engine brake switch off, but iirc, when I do, as soon as I accelrate, all goes back to normal - maybe yours completes the cycle while nothings changed ????

So, your turning off the switch, applying throttle, and the gear selected (left side of display), isn't going back to 4 or 5?

JBT, His 03' model will likely have the flapper valve ex brake, not built into the VGT.

Ok; I'm afraid , I'll have to ask questions to clarify your problem .

The transmission stays in the exhaust brake; trans downshift's, program selected gear ; even after the dash switch is turned off ; correct ?
The program gear ( 2nd ? ) continues to be displayed on the Allison shift pad ?
Or does the shift pad , display go to ( D ) and the coach won't accelerate ?
Applying throttle , won't override the downshift program , and the engine won't pick up any RPM , even in the lower gear ?
Sorry for the questions , but I'm trying to determine , if this is an electronics/program issue; or the exhaust brake staying on and limiting engine power .
