False alternator light & chime

When we drive our '08 Cayman in the rain, we get an intermittent alternator warning light and chime. Voltage gauge indicates charging normally. Goes away once weather dries.

Anybody had similar issue and figured out a cure?

I assume moisture short at alternator? Or is it moisture up front near dash or fuse box?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Traced a similar intermittant when wet problem to a corroded wiring connector within 10" of the alternator, all the connections on the alt were fine but the 2 wire plug in connector was not water proof , cleaned it up and packed with non-conducting grease and no problem since.

General question:
My rig's docs don't mention that I'll get a chime when the alternator fails (might fail). Fortunately it never has failed. Does your rig docs state you get an ALT light and a chime?

I do get a chime (very quiet in volume) when in rainy weather. It's the same chime (tone & frequency) when the jacks are deployed ....but (again) very-very low in volume. I get proper chime volume when the jacks are actually down.

Had that problem, and it turned out to be a bad relay. Monaco sent me a new one and so far no more problems. Last year in Quartzsite the guys tested everything and the alternator was working etc. deSanford
