Fiberglass roof sealer???
I have a 1995 Monaco Dynasty with a one piece fiberglass roof. It has the normal stress cracking that goes with age. Can anybody recommend a good sealer for the fiberglass roof.
Thanks

Did you folks who coated their roof have cracks too before coating it? How long has been since the roof was coated, and if there were cracks, have they reappeared? If not that would be a much easier way to go than what I'm doing.
I went to a fiberglass repair guy who said the fiberglass was compromised where the cracks were and to grind through the gelcoat to the glass to see if there dark (brown) streaks below the cracks. I did, and there were, so on his advice I'm grinding across each crack and glassing in a piece of mat about 6" wide for the length of the crack.
It would sure be a lot easier to coat it if that would work, but the glass guy said if the compromised area wasn't repaired it would just crack again.

My roof had "fine" cracks, nothing significant. AFAIK they haven't reappeared.

the roof coating will naturally chalk. I painted mine with rustoleum topside paint. $17.00 per quart and you can buy it at any hardware store that sells rustoleum products. wash the roof, use a non aggressive nylon sanding pad to remove extra dirt and chalking. rinse of the residue. apply at least 2 thin coats and you are done. took less than 3 quarts and covered all the hairline fiberglass cracks very well on a 33 foot motorhome. very simple process. if your roof has deep cracks in the fiberglass, then it is not a coating issue.

The cracks in my roof go all the way through the gel coat to the fiberglass and when the fiberglass is uncovered there is a visible line where it was "bent". The fiberglass is not separated, but just has a line in it where it was bent. Are the "fine" cracks like this or just on the surface of the gelcoat/paint?
Thanks.

I've been thinking about recoating my top this spring too. After researching this a while, and I think I will go with one of the newer marine topside coatings.
The modern two-part top coats are very durable. This one is recommended by Boatworks (easy to apply with a roller, UV resistant, and high gloss. The drawback is that a gallon cost $260 (1 gallon will cover 400 sq-ft at a 2 mil thickness).
