Finally on the DP side!!

Hey all, I have kinda fallen into a DP!! It's not new but well taken care of. She is a 93 Navigator, 155k miles, brand new tires in 09, 300 Cummins, Allison. I have a lot to learn since I have never owned a DP so I will surely need advice from you guys and gals who are close to Elk grove!

Of course DW and I have already started the interior transformation, new valances, cabinet hardware, fixtures and in the near future flooring and I pray some new TV equipment up front. DW found a place in San Diego RichwoodRV Interiors that looked like a good place for that mod.

I am not really a fan of the 3 lights each side but it's kinda growing on me, plus it would be a ton of work to swap out and fix that pet peeve light issue.

Anyway I will keep posting when progress is made. Here are 2 pics of the exterior, the bottom was re-painted by the previous owner, I want to pull the graphics and paint a better scheme similar to our old endeavor. I just don't want the headache I went through with the last guy.

If anyone in the Sacramento area would be willing to give me some pointers and advice on DP ownership I would buy ya lunch! Of course I would want you to do a walk thru with me too.

I was too excited to take before pics and I already ripped out the master headboard & mirror, valances & cabinet hardware. Up next, light fixtures & flooring. MY plan is not to spend over 8K on the total make over, including paint graphics. If I meet my budget, I'll only be in the entire project for 22K!! YAHOOOOOO

We too renovated a DP last year. It's an adventure and we found we couldn't stop until we had everything done to our satisfaction. I invite you to our post "Renovating a Tradewinds" in the National RV section of this forum. Lots of photos and we show step by step our process. Good luck with your new "baby".

Well, we said goodbye to our endeavor today, nice couple from down the road bought it.
she was good to us, but we are happy to be in a DP. I know it's more work but hey that's what life is about.

I want to send out a BIG thanks to autofish for braving today's chilly temps to give me some pointers on owning a dp. It was cold I actually forgot bout the lunch I owe him! Sorry autofish, I'll make it up to you

Welcome to the DP world. I store my rig in Folsom and have the same engine.

Gradually, over nine years of ownership and a retirement a few years ago, I have become a DIY guy on our Coach.

Lube, Oil, Coolant, thermostat, water pump, and alternator changes are on my done list. However, I do them really slow. Also doing repair work on peeling clear coat in smaller areas.

My first lube and oil change job in 2002 cost over $400. My last one with an Air Filter change was $130 done in my driveway.

Check out FilterBarn.com for very competitive prices on filters. Spend more than $100 and you will save shipping cost and have inventory on hand for the next round.

Flattened large cardboard boxes are great for catching drips during servicing and make sliding under the rig easier than a creeper.

Thanks for the info Dean! I look forward to meeting you sometime, I do get out to Folsom quite a bit. It's nice to know guys in the area, and I don't mind helping someone turn a wrench or two.

Well the transformation has started!! I dropped the rig off at the paint shop on Tuesday, I am told that the work I am having done should be done in about two weeks (Praying) and I don't want to go through what we went through on the last makeover.

I am using someone five miles from my house this time, that way I can drop by anytime to see the progress! My paint scheme is taken from a 99 H.R. navi. pretty simple graphics, see below

We will continue the interior when she comes home, in the mean time DW and I will get to work on the new valances.

I had my electrician drop in and install a 30 amp RV plug for me so I can at least power the electric heater instead of burning up the propane to work inside on those chilly nights

Will keep ya posted as work continues.

I went to check on progress today and all the old vinyl graphics are now gone and the prep work has begun. I should see paint flying maybe bu Tuesday.

I will be eager to see next weeks update!

Met with the painters again today, DW and I had to make a slight adjustment in paint scheme as she wanted something a little more interesting so we decided on a very close facsimile of this 99 navigator.

I went to approve the graphics layout last night and today. I may have to go back again tonight for a final-final lol, lol

Anyway I am feeling a lot better after making a few adjustments, it's not exact to the one we chose as template but it's close enough for me.

After the last paint job, which took five months I am just at two weeks and may get her back mid-week

It takes a lot of time to get something like that done right.

We bought a 1993 HR Navigator last year. One owner, great condition and we love it.

The only real problem is that the central light fittings/air con outlets have gone very yellow and some are cracked. Do you have any thoughts on what you are going to do (if anything) with those?
