Fire in the coach

Hey guys,
This is an informational post, for your edification. We had a fire in the coach last night. My wife is a night owl and if she hadn't been awake when it started, we might not have survived or at least the coach would have suffered heavy damage.

The fire started up above the cold air return just below the center A/C unit. I'm not going to poke around until I touch base with the insurance company, but the fire was centered at a wire bundle close to a junction box. The fire burned completely through the duct and traveled forward as far as the first downward facing cold air dump opening. The two forward A/C units were off and I suspect that the bedroom unit, which was on high fan only, pushed the fire in that direction.

Sharon heard some strange noise coming from the ceiling & came & got me. Luckily the fire was just getting started and the noise was wires shorting & sparking. Standing In front of the cooktop, I could see the sparking and then open flame up above the drop down panel. I grabbed a fire extinguisher mounter behind the driver's seat & shot foam up above the drop down panel. Luckily, that did the trick because, as you know, it takes a little time to drop the panel.

At this point I don't know the root cause. No breakers tripped but the 12 VDC fuse for the A/C controllers was blown.

I'll give you guys an up date when I know anything further.

Glad your both OK and you saved the coach. My wife can hear sounds a mile away. For me if it's not within arm's length I don't hear it. You owe Sharon a nice dinner or present for saving your life and the coach.

Keep us posted on the root cause.

So glad you guy's are ok! Good thing you could get to the fire extinguisher, and reminds us all that having one at both ends of th MH is a must! Mine is behind the drivers seat also, and it will have one in the bedroom too, after hearing this! I really never thought about having one in the bedroom till now!
I hope your insurance steps up, and gets you fixed quickly! Rail!

Great you caught it in time. Yes I believe having a fire extinguisher near the bedroom is VERY important. We have one in the clothes closet near my head board. You have to have a way to get through the flames if necessary to get out. My other one is by the front door and is a cheap little one, but who needs a big one when you are almost out the door.

Glad to hear you guys are ok and the fire didn't destroy your MH. This is also a reminder for me to check our fire extinguishers. Keep us posted and I hope you get it repaired quickly.

Yep, I have a 5 # one in the bedroom, right beside the bed.
