I have a Zone membership with Thousand Trails. I signed up over 2 years ago and I was given a second Zone FREE so now I have 2 Zones. Got a call today from Thousand Trail Company offering me another FREE Zone of my choice if I attend a 35 minute "update" talk. Anyone attend one of these "updates"? I would like to know if there is a catch. The lady on the phone said NO catch....just have to come on down to hear the info. deSanford

My DW and I attended one of these meetings a couple of weeks ago. It was just an informational meeting about what's going on in Thousand Trails. If you are interested in another type of membership they will provide you information specific to what kind of membership you currently have. We were zone members as well and all we had to do was fill out a simple form to obtain the additional free zone. No pressure at all - we could have walked out without any kind of promotional information. Easy deal in my mind.

Thank you chipmulgrew that is what the young lady said NO catch........I signed up as it is worth the drive to get one more FREE Zone. They usually cost upwards of $700.00 per Zone. deSanford

Maybe I don't understand?

If all you had to do was sign up to get one Thousand Trails zone, you actually got something FREE.

However, if you paid anything at all for one zone, and you got a second zone included, you DID NOT get anything FREE.

Just my opinion.

Yup ...It's the technical difference between the phrases "at no additional cost" and "free".

At-no-additional-cost meaning you get something extra if you purchase something .... often the term "BOGO".

Free, meaning "without cost or payment" ... you get it with no strings attached .... it's not "2 for 1", it's "1 for zero".

Let me be clear in terms I understand: I purchased one Zone, and the promotion was I could pick another Zone so I could have 2 Zones for the price of one Zone. After you digest that I am offered another Zone (this would make 3 Zones) if I attend a 35 minute talk about Thousand Trails. deSanford

I have the Thousand Trails Elite Membership and get nothing for free

and then try and put a 40' coach in these older sights sucks but I'm down to about $5 a night not bad plus I can go full time if I want. It has it's +&-

What I like about their Zone "PASS" is NO upfront costs. Just pay the yearly dues. In my case it is $499.00 per year. Yes I would say that a shorter coach is easier to park in a lot of their parks. The DW and I downsized to a 36' which is a nice size with the full wall slide etc. Once you go small you never want to go big again. deSanford

$499.00 per year for 2, (or 3), Thousand Trail "zones" sounds like a good deal.

However, I assume you paid the $499 "up front" the first year, (and you will have to pay the yearly dues upfront for every year you want to take advantage of the deal)?
That $499 sounds very much like an upfront cost to me.

BTW, some of the "zone deal" rules/restrictions seem complicated and confusing to me.
Are you having any problem understanding and/or abiding by those rules?

We started out small and moved up to big. Should have started big in the first place, no comparison as I have not found any problems with finding spots in private campgrounds, state and national parks even at my 42'. Backing into a spot with a the tag lifted is a piece of cake and there is no comparison in the handling when driving down the road at 65.

No wind problems from passing trucks and have never had to make any modifications for steering or other chassis parts. Straight and true just like it came from the factory.

My advice is to still buy one size larger than you think you will need......

What I mean to say which I guess you didn't understand was some "plans" (membership) require a purchase price versus joining the "club" and paying your dues in advance. Can you see the difference?
