Agree with 96 John if the over flow fills up its going to push water causing suction. I just checked mine my vent and over flow right next to each other. Vent drops behind tank.

Yup, air pressure out of the overflow. Guess it is dual-purpose. Will try a small hole in it at the high point per Golferguy.

I drilled a 1/8" hole in the top side of my overflow line.
Filled it from the city/fill valve until it was flowing out pretty good.
I shut off water and went to the new hole I drilled. Put my finger over the hole and the water was a steady strem. When I removed it, the water slowed. Finger back on, it increased. One more time off and siphon stopped.
So, yes, the hole drilled in the vent line worked! I will still open the door and watch from here on out

Does water shoot out of the hole you drilled when water is flowing out of the tube?
