Front A/C unit compressor cycling

Has anyone had problems with their front roof a/c unit compressor cycling off for 3 to 4 minutes and then clicking back on for about same amount of time, fans continue to run when compressor cycles off and unit blows cold when compressor decides to run, but does not keep up when temperatures rise due to cycling. Thought I would ask if anyone else has experienced this before I take a look, it is a little to hot to be on roof right now (triple digits) so I will put this as future project.

My guess is that you have air blowing directly on the thermostat or the little
remote sensor .
Try pointing the air differently and see if it helps .
