Front Door

I had a few bubbles of clear coat lifting off the dark stripe on my front door. I used duct tape and pulled off the loose clear, but I've had more spots bubble up. Now that I've removed the clear over a larger area I can see cracks in the paint layer. This puzzles me because I thought the door was steel or aluminum and not fiberglass. What are they made of?

Mine looks like an aluminum frame with plywood/veneer covering it and fiberglass over that.

That's not what I want to hear! I'd like to make it look better, but I don't want to get into a massive project.

This is what the clear looks like on this gold color on the door. I have some clear coat peeling on the roof radius and this on the door. The other colors on the door are fine.

The peeling is about 25% the width of the door right now. I can pull the peeling clear off and get a good edge, but in a month or so that edge starts crumbling so I have been reluctant to paint it. I plan to spray two part clear over the spot to make it look good for now, and paint the whole door later.

That's probably what I'd do. Sand it with very fine sandpaper to feather the clear coat that is there and then spray the new clear coat on.

I had to repaint 3 of my basement doors on drivers side, I didn't strip the entire area. After repainting I sprayed the clear coat on. Looks pretty good, my brother has done lots of restoration and body work, took him a while to find the area I fixed.
