According to an article in the latest LazyDays magazine, Monaco has approved new "fuel saving cooling package modifications" to '06-'09 MH with certain rear radiator 360-ISC 400-ISL Cummins and also Cat C-9's. According to the article, fuel economy has been demonstrated to be up to 11% on the Cummins and up to 29% with the Cat. This should be available by the end of October and can be retro-fitted in about 2-3 hours at a cost of between $650 and $1200.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.........might have found a project for the new MH. The Math doesn't work though. I use my MH around 4000 miles a year at 8 MPG. at $3.50/gal for diesel the savings would only be around $157 per year. Even at $5/gallon the savings would be around $250 per year. A Cat would have much greater savings according to the article and I could see that as being feasible.
This will be a great addition to a new, from the factory coach, but as an add on for me, it doesn't make much economic sense...environmental sure, but economic? not in my opinion for my usage.

I too saw the Lzydys printing. What specifically is this modification and how does it work?

My guess is that it is a clutch fan - Cummins tech advised me last week that they install it for about $800.00

I came to the same conclusion as you Ron, and in the Texas heat I prefer max engine cooling.

Sometimes in cold weather diesels have trouble staying hot enough. Being able to turn the fan off to warm the engine might be a good thing.

Isn't the Camelot a side radiator coach? If it is then this fan mod would not apply.

I am pretty sure that the modification in question is a Horton fan clutch.

We had one fitted in September by Cummins in Coburg, Oregon. Price was $1000.95

The real expert on this is Jack who works for Cummins in Elkhart, Indiana. He does the modification on site and charges around $800.

The new fan is supposed to give us a better fuel milage, but we haven't been travelling long enough in order to pass a verdict on this. 11% could be a bit optimistic but we shall see.

What it is also claimed to do is to give you an added 30 to 40 HP when the fan is not running. This is claimed to get you quicker out of the starting blocks if this is what you like.

Finally - it gives you a much more quiet coach, This is f.x. important to us when entering and leaving the campgrounds as we now do not disturb our neighbourghs as much as before.
