FYI, For those who are changing their radio

I replace my Magnadyne POS radio about six months after getting this new coach. I used a Kenwood DDX719 mostly for it's adjustable screen. Anyway, since the replacement the steering wheel controls for the radio no longer worked (obviously). I thought I would see if I could get them working with the new radio. So I emailed Vehicle Improvement Products (VIP), the makers of the Smart Wheel to see if they had any ideas. A could of days later I got an email with instructions on how to change a couple of wires to make it work. It would have been very easy had Monaco wired all 16 pins in the Smart Wheel connector, but they skipped the two that were needed for the change. Once I overcame that issue the steering wheel controls are working again.
Thanks Vehicle Improvement Products

Thanks

The instructions I have are for my specific Kenwood head unit and Smart Wheel controller combination. If that is what you have then on the SM301 connector, disconnect pin 5 power pin 6 (I just moved the wire from 5 to 6) and add a jumper from 6 to pin 7. Connect pin 13 to the Blue/Yellow wire of the radio. Really simple if pins 6 and 7 had been wired but mine were blank.

If you contact Smart Wheel just give them your controller number and version along with the radio hookup information. They should be able to tell you what to do.

I have the voice recognition (VR) module installed.
I just say what I want and the VR grabs the remote and 'makes it so'.

Sounds interesting no pun intended Chris. Could you tell us more about this "module"? deSanford

It's one of the more (perhaps the most) expensive options and is installed in the co-pilot's seat. It has additional functions such as overspeed warning, underspeed warning, lane wander alert, police radar detector, etc. Some of these can get slightly annoying and produce a strange whine. However, it is prone to going offline (or napping) at which point, I have to revert to my 'stupid' wheel.

I knew I should have opted for a "SMART" wheel. My VR "module" acts just like yours Chris. I guess that is standard equipment. deSanford

Looks like we can exchange the "DW' to DAM ( 'Driver Alert Module'). deSanford
