Gas Gauge Range

I'm my '98 HR Endeavor I've got a 90 gallon gas tank. The generator runs out when the gauge gets to the point where the light comes on. At this point the gauge is pretty near E but it only takes 60g to fill it back up. I'm guessing this is something I just need to deal with because dropping the tank to change the gauge or extend the tube for the generator is a lot of work for little gain. Also, while I'm on the fuel topic I've got an issue where I can only fill from one side without causing fuel to get caught in the air coming back up the full neck and shooting out violently. I've fixed this by removing the cap venting the other side while I'm filling. This is a pain though because if the bus is tilted away from the full side it will overflow from the lower side without shutting off. Any tips on either of these fuel tank issues? I would imagine these are related to the freightliner chassis.

Fuel pick up for generators is supposed to be above the absolute empty level. Sounds normal, leaves you about a 1/3rd of a tank. You don't want to have the generator use all your fuel, how could you leave the campground if it did?
Fuel fill issue is most likely because the smaller vent line has dropped below the level of the filler pipe. should be on top of the filler pipe.
