Gas struts on cargo doors

I had to remove my cargo doors for repair and I am wondering how to get the struts re-attached. They are under a good deal of pressure and are fully extended. I need to compress them in order to get them to fit on the
mounting hardware. I would appreciate some guidance from anyone.
Thanks much.

the strut or gas spring should be sized when extended so that the door still has just a little bit of travel left. The extended gas spring should not extend farther that the door will travel. Sounds like you need to get the correct sized spring (strut)

I usually attach the end that goes on the door first and then push the other end up onto the bottom mount. If you have a slotted mount with a locking nut make sure it is loose and the door is extended as much as possible, this will result in less distance to collapse the strut.

I have found that pushing the door open past where it normally sits often gives enough room to slip the end over he ball.
