Generator &/or inverter stops charging batteries

My 98 Diplomat 38D has Onan generator and Xantrex Freedom inverter. After about 30 minutes of generator running, the “AC In” light on the inverter’s remote panel goes out, so the batteries apparently are no longer being charged. The generator remains running. I noticed this last summer, but thought it had to do with house batteries needing to be replaced. Have replaced the batteries, but the problem remains. No fault codes appear. If turn off the generator, and try hours later, it’ll charge the batteries for another 30 so minutes, before it stops charging. Generator repair person via phone thinks inverter problem. Xantrex repair not so sure. Anyone experience this problem, and/or have any suggestions? Thank you!

now won't it be nice to know what the the voltage actually is at the inverter input terminals? that would help identify if the problem is the generator, inverter, or something else. i'm assuming the inverter is a combination converter / inverter.

Try the air conditioning when the " AC in " light goes out.

That will tell you if the generator is still making electricity or its an inverter problem.

After ten minutes, the batteries stopped charging (“ac in” light went out), and the a/c would not turn on. So that sounds like the generator, not the inverter/charger,, correct? The a/c takes the electricity straight from generator, correct?

If the generator needs fuel filters, the RPMs may be dropping just enough to let the voltage drop lower then the Auto Transfer Switch pull in voltage.

When were the fuel filters last changed ?
