Generator information

Hello everyone I just wanted to share some info I discovered about the parts situation for my 7.5 Onan diesel generator
So last week I was exercising my generator when it shut down and flashed out a 33 code, ( also a 25 which I suspect is part due to the 1st code.)
So my intention is to replace the t-stat, & sensor as well as some other related cooling system parts, so I made a list, assembled all my part numbers and other pertanate information an paraded my butt down to the local Onan parts dealer here in my little town. First thing is the parts tech is working from home, so they faxed my list to him and told me he would call me.
So I went on line the big (A) website, they had no parts for Onan that I needed so I went to the other big (E-) website they had several parts but quantity is diminishing. So Now I have a fail safe, so I called other Onan supply ports in the Bay Area, thinking if I had to travel a couple hours today I would just so I could start the project this weekend. They only had a couple of the items I needed and was told the theres would have to be ordered... So then I get a call from the local guy, he basically repeated what the other "supply warehouses" had told me. However he added that when ordering theres a hook, If you use a base order it WILL take as long as a complete month or longer before you see your order, or you can order engine down means you could see them within a few days, perhaps a week depending on availability... The hook is engine down states they will charge almost three times just for the freight, so my thermostat gasket could end up being almost $40.00... I was polite, I canceled my order with the local dealer!
So I went back on to the Big (E-) website and placed my order, which will be here in 2 weeks.
Im telling you all this cause I was told the West coast is having a very difficult time with stock... frankly due to covid they don't have any! That all basic items are not available. So this message is to tell you if your looking to do basic maintenance like coolant flush, a Thermostat, A new belt, or even the exhaust gasket Ya might want to start doing a little recon now an even purchase while on line still has some.
