Generator overheats
I just purchased 2000 Monaco Executive and when we checked it out the generator ran and seemed fine.
Tried running it today for an extended period of time and it shut off while driving down the highway and the outside temp was only around 73.
Got home and tried it again and it started up and then shut off after about 30 seconds. Was getting a single slow flash that is apparently an overtemp alarm.
Checked oil and it was clean and full and the coolant was full also good. Generator felt pretty hot, what else do I need to check. All help will be greatly appreciated.

What is the fuel level in the main tank. Many will not pull fuel once you are down to between 1/2-1/4 to empty.

My 7000 did the same thing a couple times. First time the coolant level was below the fill line. Second time was shortlyafter buying fuel (last weekend) so I replaced the fuel filter and it ran all weekend and seems fine now. Replacing the DP engine fuel filters tomorrow just to be safe.

Did the OP state he had an over temp code?
Might want to check the fan belt. They can glaze and slip. Might look good but slip and overheat.
Also, the panel on the generator next to the start switch. Remove that and you should find a radiator cap. Remove it and make sure you have coolant up to the cap. Also make sure the cap is in good shape.
I have Quietdiesel 75000 and love it. Great generators!
How many hours on the generator?

Coolant level and cap look ok, I did just fill up the fuel tank, maybe stirred some trash up. Will try replacing the fuel filter.

As mentioned above, how many hours?
It may be due for a new fan belt. Old belts will slip, and result in slow fan speed.

Now if were guessing  ?....I'll take overheat due to belt failure and it's going in to auto-shutdown protection mode. ( pretty common failure )
The fault codes IMC will lead you to the origins of the failure.

Thanks for the new advice! I will check the fan belt, and radiator today! Also going to re-inspect the radiator cap more closely.
The start button on the generator has an error code diagnostic chart beside it that says a single slow flash is an overheating issue. It has 3 other flash error codes 2 flashes, 3 flashes and continuous quick flashing which means it is preheating.

I had a similar problem the generator would run for a short time and shut down with an overheat code. I found that the water temp sensor was bad and changed it all has been good after I changed it. Seems like a problem with these generators.
