Generator power problem.

I wanted to exercise my generator the other day just to do it. I was hooked to shore power and everything was working fine.
I disconnected the shore power and fired up the generator. It was putting out power with no problem in the beginning to run the A/C's.
After about 10 minutes the power kept on cutting in and out and I could hear a clicking from the electrical area in the belly of the coach. It was clicking on and off making the same sound when I plug in shore power for the first time, if that makes any sense.
Then after a few times it stopped, the generator was running but no power was getting to the coach. I shut it down and plug the shore power back in, it make that click sound when I did and everything worked fine.
I use the generator at the beach yesterday to run the A/C's for a while and test it again and had no problem at all.
I'm confused and don't know where to start looking to solve this problem.

The clucking sounds like your transfer switch. If that's the sound you gets when you plug into shore power.
Sounds like it has a loose wire.

Turn you generator off, unplug shore power and turn off your 50 amp breakers in your circuit breaker box.
Remove the cover from your transfer switch and tighten the connections.
Or else the transfer switch may need replacing.
