Generator Start Procedure

Hello
Newbie checking in, what is the proper procedure to start the generator ?
1997 Dynasty with Onan 7.5 diesel generator.
The switch has a "lightning bolt" on the bottom edge, not for sure what that means?
The owners manual is no real value as to which way the switch should be pushed, top side, bottom side, held down ?
The generator has always started, but I have never been certain about the proper procedure. Having our first real cold spell in Texas today.
Appreciate learning the correct method to start and stop.
Thanks

press and hold the bottom of the switch (on the dash).......this is the primer for when it gets real cold or you haven't used the genny in a long time............hold it down for 15 seconds or so............then press and hold the top of the switch until the genny starts..............genny's should be exercised regularly, but i was told by my rv expert that you really don't want to do it in extremely cold weather unless you plan on using the genny.................i start ours once a month, and put a load on it......we go south in january, so our coach is never really parked for more than 3 months
....leave it run for a half hour...............

Thank you for the reply.
I was never for certain about the proper procedure.

I seldom ever use the down position but as stated if it doesn't want to start then
use the down ( prime ) position .
When starting it will take a few sec or longer for the glow plugs to warm up
before it starts to spin .

Thank you, Ray.

So nice to have this forum to help out the "newbies" like me.
I think I understand the procedure now.

Regards,

I have the Onan 12.5 diesel unit. It has a built in time delay to allow the glow plugs to heat before trying to start.

I have the 7.5 Onan QD. I try to remember to run it for at least 30 minutes once a month with both A/C units on.

I hold down the bottom of the switch for 30 seconds to prime, then hold down the top to start!
