Generator Started by Itself -- How?

I replaced the Trace inverter last November with a Magnum MS-2012. I am in the process of installing the Magnum AGS-N, its in place, but no wires are connected. This afternoon I came home and parked behind the motor home and went inside. The generator was not running. Ten minutes later I came outside and it was running! The wires for the auto start are laying loose in the service bay so how can the generator start itself?

I checked the Progressive EMS and I'm getting 120 volts on all three legs and there are no errors listed. The A/C is on in the coach and it is a comfortable temperature.

Only thing I can remember on this happening involves the wiring harness located on passenger side of generator. Moisture gets in there causing the generator to start. Remedy is to pull the harness apart, spray it out and maybe adding some dielectric grease to seal it.

I had same problem with harness on passenger side. Generator started and ran for 12 hours.
Pulled plug on harness and added dielectric grease. Very next weekend was talking to a gentleman that had his start in storage lot, ran 48 hours till Fuel was too low.

Yep pretty sure it is the connection they described above .

It could be funny if it wasn't actually serious .
Think about a coach in a building where people are sleeping .
I've heard of people finding the coach in storage practically out of fuel because
presumably the gen had started and run and run until the fuel got low .

Good luck

Mine cranked up a few weeks ago and ran all night. Taking advice and checking the plug today.

Is there a enable/disable generator autostart switch? Or could one be added? Especially when parked indoors, having the generator start and run on it's own could be safety concern. And helpful when parked outside.

Not sure what system you have but some of the air conditioners have a generator start when temperature goes up

This problem we are discussing is not associated with the auto gen start .
This is caused by dampness and corrosion developing in the connector
in the wiring harness that runs along side of the gen .
The easy way to be sure the gen doesn't start is to unplug that connector .

A gen can start even if doesn't have auto start when this corrosion develops

If I'd known it would start on it's own I wouldn't be working on the AGS!

On some coaches the dash air conditioner condensate drain empties out right on top of the generator and right on top of a joint where the electrical access plate is screwed down. Over time the condensate will corrode a circuit board causing a short and a generator start. Many of us have re-plumbed the drain extending it down to below the generator. Easy fix.

I haven't heard this complaint in several months but it is a bit too common.

If you could take a few pictures of the plug when you disconnect it I certainly would appreciate it. I'm an Electronic tech and the forensics can really be helpful.
