Generator Switches

I have a 2008 monaco la palma xl. It has 3 generator switches; hallway, dashboard and on generator. The hallway and dash dont work to start or shut off. Only switch on generator works. The hallway switch lights up when gen is on though. What is best way to test them?

What generator do you have? Since both interior switches don’t work but the one on the generator does I would start at the harness at the generator.

There should be a harness coming out the bottom or side of the control board. About 2-3 feet long. The can come unplugged, or connections can fail.

You can unplug it and test for 12 volts. Probably the red wire in the harness. Have someone puts the start button and see if you get voltage to one of the leads.

Depending on what unit you have there may be an additional relay, but usually the start stop button jus supplies power to the control board which activates the starter.

One thing to try is start it at the generator and see if it will shut off from the switch.

Switches do fail but highly unlikely both fail at once.

If it shuts off, but you have no power to the plug, start checking fuses.

Take a look at this connector. Pull it apart and clean with electrical contact cleaner. Connect and disconnect a few times while spraying each time.
While it is apart gently tug on all the wires to make sure they are in the connector securely. Last week one of our members, BigSkyBob, had a wire that was loose in the connector.

Swap the food switch for 1 that doesn't work. That will tell you if switch or wiring problem.

Farther down the harness after the first connection (same as picture posted by happycarz) there is a white connector that was very corroded and 2 middle wires were broke off due to corrosion. Where can I get a replacement connector??

You might try something like this provided it handles the gauge wiring and amperage.

That is a TE/AMP Mate-N-Lok connector.

Mouser carries then and the pins to match.

PM me if you need some help find the correct ones.
