Girard window awnings

Hi guys,
My patio and door awning are wired to a hard switch, but my 3 window awning operate only on the remote and only operate intermittently. I can't find the receivers for these 3, and has anyone hard wired these, and if you did, how did you do it? I appreciate any help!!!

Thank you. Stay safe & God bless, Jake

The receivers are in the window awning motors. The motors are 120V.

I had to replace two of our window awning motors and rather than pay Girard $900 each I bought them from Florida Automated Shade for around $350 each

https://www.floridaautomatedshade.com/

They are somewhat of a chore to replace and you need to pull a pull string out with the old 120V cable so you can pull the new wire in.

The drivers side bedroom 120V cable is routed down through the cabinet to the left of the window. The plug is under the false floor and I had to remove the shelves, the floor, and the right hand inner wall of the cabinet to be able to pull the new 120 V cable in.

The passenger bedroom 120V cable is routed behind the window valence and down into the back of the AV cabinet behind the short, wide cabinet door that flips down.

The new motors adjust their open and close limits with the remote rather than the hex screw on the original ones. They have been flawless since I installed them 2 years ago.

thanks Paul,
Did the new motors come with new remotes,or were you able to program them to the original remotes?

Paul helped me replace one of our Girard window awnings. On our 2004 coach only the main awning is remote controlled. The window awnings are hard wired.

When you remove the awning wiring Paul recommended attaching a string to the wires inside and then pulling them through to the outside. Later you can use this string to pull the new wires back inside. This is a lifesaver!

Regardless, the new remote control awning motors do not come with a remote. You will need to program them. They use a Somfy remote which is also used in home window shades.

I've replaced both remote controlled and hard wired. Not much difference in the process other than you have to program the remote controlled versions.
The other big issue is to purchase the replacement motor from Florida Automated Shades. These things are expensive and they are less than half Girard's price.

Paul or Vito,
What was the model number of motors you bought?

Here are the motors that worked for me. https://www.floridaautomatedshade.co...-p/2005133.htm

On that page it shows the drives and crowns. My drive was part number 9751002 and my crown was 9705341, I think, but I reused mine.

Remember to get metal end plates from Girard. The originals on ours were plastic and we had a couple break.

Paul, did you have to get new remotes, or were you able to program the original gerard remotes?

Thanks, Jake

Hi Jake,

I don’t think it matters. I believe my long window awning on the drivers front slide has the same motor as the two rear ones.

But best is to get the part number off the motor that is currently in there.
