Goodyear Date codes.... arrrrrh

Just noticed the tire date codes on our new to us Dynasty. The Toyo's on the duels and tag are only a little over a year old (4315) which I remember seeing when we bought it. The Goodyear G670s on the front however are past my comfort level (2111) especially for a steer axle!! I looked at the wrong stamp

If I was paying attention I would have had them changed out in Bend

Considering at least changing the GYs to the tag and the Toyos on the tag to the front. The GYs are in excellent condition for that old a tire, sidewalls are in good shape with no cracks or scuffing just not for the steers.
...... or I can just change them out and sell the GYs to my friend for the back end of one of his dirt trailers.

I would replace the GY with Toyo, and sell the GY.

I also would get rid of the GY's. I'm not a fan. I had a nearly new good year blow out and did over $8 in damage. I had the tire monitoring but it was a catastrophic failure.

I'm thinking you meant $8K

I'm not a big fan either, the coach is tucked in it house for now so I'll start looking at prices, Toyo has been my choice for awhile now so that's the direction I'm going.

The steer axle is the worst axle to have Goodyear tires on. Very prone to rivering in that position.

Yes, I meant 8K. luckily it wasn't a steer tire that blew. Outside dually. I had serious rivering issues on the steers as well but after the blow out I replaced all of them. I have bridgestones now and have been great. I'm not sure, but I heard they stopped making them for RV's. (not verified, however)

I'll be curious to see what you end up with.

windsobill; you do realize in all probability that what cause the catastrophic failure of the GY tire was road junk and would have caused any tire to fail also.

Not in all cases...
I can promise you when my Goodyear went out that I didn't hit anything and it was a TOTAL surprise... sounded like a shotgun blast !

BUT, Goodyear did step up to the plate when I sent them pics and they paid for everything - roadside svc, rv repair, even the replacement tire!
they just asked me to bring the tire carcass to one of their dealers so it could be sent back to them to be analyzed.

Goodyear Tires have very bad reputation on every RV type forum I belong to. That is not all due to road debris. Anecdotal maybe, but where there is smoke

I just had 6 Toyo M144 295/80R-22.5 installed , in my search I found this site if you are going with Toyo
https://simpletire.com/toyo-m144-tires
And don't forger to get the military discount if eligible, I showed this price to my dealer and he surprised me by giving me a price for 6 tires with good dates out the door tax mount computer balanced for $2130 and my old tires.

Bill,

I think your original question pertained to swapping the front GY tires onto the tag axle. I wouldn't hesitate to do that. The tag axle carries the lightest load per tire and your GYs have lots of life left in them.

I am also a fan of the Toyo tires. I replaced the GY's about 15K miles ago with M144s and the improvement in ride and handling was substantial. For another data point, I paid $3860 out the door for eight 295-80x22.5 without trade in. The GY were too old to trade. If they had been 6 years old or less the trade in would have been $100 per tire. Had I known that I would have acted sooner.

Cheers,
