I just got my 2004 HR Admiral. It has the clear grab handle at the doorway. It seems like this should light up at night, but mine does not. Could someone tell me if these are supposed to be able to light? If not, is there an aftermarket product for a light in the handle? Or, has anyone wired it for a light?

Thanks.

Hi Greg...
Let me first say ..Welcome to the IRV2 Monaco Forum! You will find all sorts of help and friendly ribbing here at the Monaco Owners forum...People here enjoy each other's company, comraderie, ideas and information...so please share with us -or ask of us - as often as you can!

In answer to your question... NO, it does NOT come as a prelit handle ...BUT you can go HERE to see how DigNBubbs did his. You can also do another search - or PM him_ because it seems like he had a problem after he did it..can't remember for sure though...

Also .. welcome to IRV2 ..which I feel is the best RVer's site out there!
Please post often and share your own info and stories!!

PS... Ask Ronboc for his magic sprinkling of pixie dust when you are ready to become a member of the Monaco Owners Forum!

Welcome Greg as well. Just for information I found on my handle when it came loose that the lower portion was not sealed good, and when I took it out to re-glue it I found a water trap in the lower fitting where the handle goes in. Sure glad I found this , anyone may want to check to be sure yours is sealed good around the outside to prevent water seeping in there.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the direction. That was some very helpful info.

This is a great forum and I appreciate the quick responses and the freindliness. You don't find that everywhere.

Welcome to the site Greg!

I think just the upper-end coaches came with the lights as standard equipment. If you follow the link that M*Momma posted, you will see that I bought the light assembly from Monaco (part number 9654 or S01806678), and ran the wires inside to a switch. The only part I didn't like was puncturing the skin of my coach Other than that, it was pretty easy to do.

Since then, I have replaced the LED with a high output red LED. I have other red lights going on, so my handle kind of sticks out in a crowd.

If you reach in side the door- there is a handle/step well light switch that you can turn on and it lights the handle. It it doesn't light up then the bulb may be bad/corroded. The light is in the upper handle assy.
I just replaced the whole handle assy in mine because the acrylic handle broke. $65

Hi Greg -

Welcome to irv2 We're really glad to have you here as a new member and are looking forward to reading your posts about your RVing experiences and adventures. You'll find a great bunch of folks on this site who are very knowledgeable of RVing, the rigs we use, and the places we go in them. Enjoy the forums and post often, and when you want to be a official member of the forum just let me know.

By the way, not all Monaco/HR's come with a lighted grab-handle. Kev (digNbubbs) did a super job and write-up on how he added a light to his, and that's the one that's referenced. We'd love to about the experience hear if you decide to do it to yours. (yes, we love to watch other people work around here ).

Thanks!
Ron

I bought the Monaco light, part number referenced early and was surprised to find it was only about $9.00. I tried making some LED lights that would fit and they didn't work well.

I drilled through the exterior of the coach behind the chrome cover that holds the grab handle in place. On my coach there's a storage area on the inside under the cup holder. I wired the handle light to the entry step lights. This way I know the handle is on when the step well lights are on and didn't require another switch.
