Headlight updating/modernizing

Not that there's anything wrong with my headlights but I've been thinking about replacing them with the newer looking, brighter, clear lenses. I just happen to think they look sleeker and, of course, would be brighter.

My problem is that I can't seem to find them that would be a "plug & play" style without doing any modifications to the body of the coach or getting involved in any rewiring projects - I'd just like them to be the exact size as the original's so that I'd be able to merely remove the old assembly's and install the new ones.

I've looked on Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist, and a number of RV parts houses, but no luck so far. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

Has anyone done something like this or have any ideas as to where I can look to locate them ???

Steve-

Confirm (or not), but by online picture comparison I think the headlights match those of a 1992-2006 Ford Econoline (E-series) van. There are two Econoline headlight styles: rectangular and "aero." You want the "aero."

If they are Econoline lights, you have a variety of replacements from which to pick.

There are numbers imprinted on each lens. If you search for those on the Web, it often can nail down the original supplier and model. Note: Many coach manufacturers used third-party (in this case, that would mean non-Ford) headlight assemblies.

Finally, you may find the connectors on replacement assemblies do not match those on your coach. You can fix that.

Clean the Headlights first

Initially I had higher powered bulbs installed in my headlights without a significant upgrade in the amount of light projected. Then I found this YouTube video. Now the amount of light being projected is significantly improved.

I just completed cleaning the headlights on my 2006 HR Vacationer to get rid of the yellow haze that had built up.

It took me about an hour. Just using water, 3 grades of wet/dry sandpaper, painter's tape, paper towels, isopropyl alcohol, trash bag and spray can of Rustoleum Gloss Clear (non-yellowing).

Here is the You Tube video showing you the entire process.

Good luck

A Google search for 'holiday rambler imperial headlights' hits on the first page. Look about 10-12 down and see if that's what you need. Happy hunting.

On the front of your headlight there is a number molded into the clear plastic.
Enter that number in Google and it will cross reference to a particular vehicle - probably a light truck or van. Once you know that you can search for headlight assemblies for that truck and you'll probably find lots of options for plug and play assemblies that have different looks.

Here is a video by the RVGEEKS. I've considered doing this, but have not pulled the trigger. Let me know what you do and how it works out.

YouTube Restoration Rocks

I used the methodology detailed in the YouTube video posted by bwlowry, and it worked great.

Here are the before and after images:

Note: this restoration technique will not remove deeper scratches or cracks, but it does dramatically improve the cosmetics and significantly brightens the road ahead.

Headlights

Thanks for the responses guys.

My problem isn't with 'fogging' up of the lenses.....it's with the fact that I'd like to change the look and function of the headlights to a more modern look with the clear plastic lenses without making any modifications to the body ( front end ) of the coach.

Ken & Vera - I did look at what's offered by M4 and the vid you posted. That vid seems to show changes applied to a newer coach than we ( you & I ) have. On the sealed beam lights, the whole assembly has to be changed if a bulb burns out like we used to have to do on the older cars.

I took the liberty of emailing M4 to see what they suggest - am waiting for an answer. As soon as I get one, I'll post it here.

Wanted to go look at my MH before responding. I do not have a sealed beam headlight. It has a 9007 bulb and you can get a LED replacement for this from M4.

Headlight updateing

Finally found something on Ebay from a company called Xtremelights or Autolights4U.
They're called "Diamond Headlights" which, I think, will give me the look I'm looking for without any modifications to the coach.
I've emailed the company and the claim these are true 'plug & play' type and guarantee the fit & operation.
Kind of pricey ( in my opinion ) but I think I'm going to try them.

I'm like you fluff... Love 99% of the coach, and while I don't drive enough at night to worry about the amount of lighting, the 'old look' is not to my liking either...
let us know how it comes out !

Thanks , John
