On our 2005 Signature, the green wire output from the DRL module (marked ICE DD1-D Made in Canada) to turn on the headlights is wired to the same green wire as the output of the SmartWheel Controller to the low beams. This is shown on plug M47 connector 7. The output from the SmartWheel to the low beams is on plug M47 connector 3.
When I activate the headlight flash on the left side of the steering wheel in the daytime, the headlights don't flash. The SmartWheel Controller thinks they are off and tries to put them on, but the headlights are already on from the DRL module. They do change in intensity a little, but not enough for a passing driver to be able to see clearly. The change is from the SmartWheel also driving the low beam circuit.
It seems that the output from the DRL module to put the headlights on should be sent to the headlight input of the SmartWheel controller. Then the headlight flash should work as expected.
The low beams really need a relay as the current passes through the SmartWheel controller.
I also noticed that if I was driving at night with the high beams on, and operate the wipers on, the low beams come on as well.
