Help! Monaco late 1990-2000's A/C duct registers
All,
My sweet Grace (2000 Windsor) was abused by her last owner -- her AC was removed when it failed, and replaced by a vent! ALL her duct work was sealed and all the duct registers were... I don't know... perhaps sacrificed to the Freon(tm) gods? All my ducts were covered with solid plates, adn the registers are missing.
I've bought a new AC and want to install it, but I don't have the registers!
Does anyone with a early 2000s or even late 90s Monaco know where you can find the duct registers? Ive measured the hole and the duct appears to be 4x6" and the register is 9.5x7" rectangular.
Anyone who knows where I might find these?
David

Yes, it appears to be one central rectangular duct. Only about 5 x 3" in cross section... maybe a little larger?

I'm really looking for someone who has the same duct I do to point out the exact source and size I need, as I don't have any to refer to -- only the stupid cover plate all over my ceiling.
None I can see match the discoloration outline of about 9.75 x 7".
What am I missing?

Ok so that’s the same as mine the registers are standard small floor registers just need to match the size.

I actually have been thinking to remove them and use a standard roof ac defuser because I think they restrict the air flow too much.
I have a 40’ with 2 ac and in hot weather it will not keep up. But my units are 20 years old and still kicking.

To repeat:
The duct hole is 4 x 6", and the actual cover plate is 7 x 9.5"
The screw spacing appears to be about 6.5", but I can't tell if that was the original outline of the register or not.
I'm sure there's a register that fits great there, but it's not obvious what it was originally.
I'm confused easily perhaps?

Thanks Bill!
What are the dimensions of those registers on yours?

Sounds like the previous owner took some short cuts.
If you are putting in a ducted type AC unit make sure that the united is mated and sealed to the duct work. I removed both my AC units late last year was the seals were leaking (another story) but what I found was that the rear unit had been removed at some point and they just set it back down on the ducting partially crushing it and didn't a good job at sealing. There was a substantial amount of cold air that was simply bypassing and recirculating.
On my coach Monaco used a slip joint to mate the AC tot he Duct. Basically you have to cut the bottom of the duct work to provide access, position the AC unit correctly, make sure the slip joint is pushed back up to the top of the duct, and then use foil tape to seal the slip joint to the duct, and then seal the opening you cut in the bottom of the duct.
I also redid the front AC unit since I pulled it to put new gaskets underneath.
After fixing both the frond and rear AC's the units produced much more cold air through the ducts. I can now shut off the either and feel cold air coming out all the ducts.
Wonder how many units are like this.

Maybe this will work! Smaller than the cover plate.

No the ceiling is original it’s just the vinyl they put everywhere.
Mine are 7.5 x 5.5 the screw holes are 6.5 apart.

As usual, your commentary is right on the money.
I received a used AC unit (Mach1) from Visione, and I'm attaching it with a ducted ceiling mount. A previous ceiling cover used a 'sock' that linked the outlet and the ducts... but in any case I've got to (as you point out)( completely seal the outlet of the AC and the ducts. As well, I intend to use an endoscope to review the entire duct and make sure nothings collapsed and that every joint is sealed with metal tape.
I see these weird strofoam vent connectors that claim to improve flow by making air 'curve' smoothly into the ducts, but I can't stand the idea of a $50 piece of foam. I'm just being picky I guess. I'll try to just really seal the separator and see how it goes.
Many thanks to everyone for all the feedback.
