Holiday Rambler Imperial 42' 2007 Jake Brake

I have a few questions about when and how to use (jake brake). I have used it but it sounds to me like all it does is down shift the transmission gears? I have two settings I believe one is used when you are going fast like exiting the free way and the other is when you are going slower. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Curious, have you noticed much of a difference between low and high? most say they cannot feel a difference.
Typically when you want to stop use High, when you want to hold a certain speed down a hill use Low, unless the hill decent is so severe you need High, then by all means flip the switch to High. There is no Wrong/right way its mostly preference.

On my 2004 Sig, with the 525 ISX, the 2 stage jake has high and low. It definitely feels different between the 2 settings. I use low most of the time when slowing down, and I use high when I am trying to maintain downhill speed in the mountains where I want to stay off the service brakes. I love the 2 speed brake, it is one of the things that sold me on my coach. We live in the the mountains and "leaving town" involves a trip down on of the three roads off the mountain. The one I use the most has some steep switchbacks and steep downhill sections. There I use high and hardly need the brakes. Let me know if you need more help. Also of note: mine has a side panel switch for high and low, and I use a foot pedal to turn on and off.

The difference between high and low is how many cylinders are used. Low uses all 6 cylinders and high probably uses 4 cylinders. A 3 setting Jake uses 6, 4, 2, cylinders.
The higher the RPM is the more the Jake holds back.

Thank you everybody I understand now I thought it just down shifted the transmission but I guess the coach just does that because I'm slowing down.

I think you misspoke here. Low uses 3 cylinders and high uses all 6. And you should definitely feel the difference. You have the ability to switch between high and low to maintain the speed you need. When you turn on the Jake a signal is sent to the transmission to downshift to whatever gear has been programmed, usually 2nd or 3rd. It will actually downshift to the lowest gear for the speed you are going at the time. Then as you slow it will continue to downshift to the lowest programmed gear.

Check with a Cummins service center or a good Cummins mechanic. Jake brakes can be adjusted to give better braking. The jakes are adjusted by removing the valve covers and individually adjusted along with the intake and exhaust valves..Truckers and mechanics call it having the rack run..Jmho.

Up to your max allowable RPM for you Engine, should be 2100
