Just bought one

We just bought an 2008 HR Ambassador 40SKQ in AZ and picked up end of Oct 2021 and drove back to NH.

We have a 2016 Scepter. Bought it new, love the room it has and also like the ride it gives. A lot of problems for the factory to fix in the beginning but all is good now.

Looking for best source for technical help with my coach. Having issues with keeping house batteries charged and now having on-board surge protector tripping when plugged into 110 v plug.

This IS your best bet. Watch the video and after you watch it for the first time, watch it again. I did this "update " to my Monaco which is the same as Holiday Rambler, and this was THE BEST upgrade I have done to my Motorhome to date.
Good luck
Frank.

As new as your unit is it most likely has a bi directional charging system but is malfunctioning.

Contact the mfgr to see if they can provide some schematics and this group can diagnose.

As for the great video shown there is one thing I would like to add with this modification/upgrade. When you run down the road with the alternator charging and the generator running which powers the onboard charger the competing sources can cause and alternator alarm. It does no harm but is annoying as heck.

Note the youtube shows a generator pin on the board the guy installs but he does not use it. The original little rectangle board he unplugs is a unidirectional device. I do not know if Monaco had a generator disable function on those year models without looking a schematic for those specific years.

I highly recommend fixing your existing sytem. It should be ample and you could be masking the real problem.

I installed the diesel bird on my HR. The diesel bird has a plug for the generator, which turns off the bird, when the generator is running and the ignition switch is on.

Hi.
I installed the BIRD 2 (diesel) in my Monaco as well. I didn't connect the generator connection because in my research I didn't find it necessary, I have not had any error codes nor any alarms going off but I have had no reason to run my generator while in motion .
My question would be where did you connect the generator connect from the BIRD 2 to your generator??? If I could see where you connected to that would be something worth investigating.
Thanks for your post.
Frank.

Frank.

Grab a voltmeter and check the blue wire on C411 or C410. I already posted pictures of the front distribution panel.

There should be a voltage show up there with the generator running. I would need to look at the BIRD device you are using to see if it wants a ground or a voltage input but most likely a voltage input to satisfy the circuit.

Looking at the schematic for my 2008 this is how it appears to work.

The red wire of the IRD/BIRD is the output from the device that goes to the solenoid to combine the batteries. The blue wire is the ignition sense. The black is ground. There are two flying blue wires that connect to each of the battery banks for reference.

The output of the IRD/Bird passes through the generator lockout relay. The output side of the relay is where the AUX start button bypasses everything and goes straight to the solenoid in the battery compartment.

When the generator runs, the hour meter gets power. That power is sent to the generator lockout relay which appears to be mounted on the board versus being a plug in one. This engages the relay which is sleeping and passing output power to the solenoid in the battery compartment. The engaged/active relay then opens the path from the Bird/Ird and allows the solenoid in the battery compartment to go to sleep.

I hope this is a bit clearer than mud.

So, in short. check the wires mentioned on those molex plugs. The wires themselves may have words on them to identify them.

You will need to confirm the wiring with a voltmeter of course.

New Nautica Owners

We picked up our Nautica 34RX yesterday. We are in Southeast Texas, so the drive home yesterday afternoon/evening was a bit rough with the wind. Today we are under severe thunderstorm watches/warnings as well as tornado watches/warnings, so organizing the rig is on hold until tomorrow. We traded in our Vegas 24.1. We loved it, but wanted a diesel pusher. I’m looking forward to learning all about our new coach!

Envious

We really wanted a HR DP and the Nautica was perfect but none to be had when we settled for the Invicta. Last rig on the lot.

Enjoy your new home on wheels.

Thanks so much, Stinger! We are heading out Sunday morning for a trip to Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky. I enjoyed driving our little Vegas, but this is a bit different. I’ll try some practice driving tomorrow. Bat Dude, I know how you feel. We were watching a Nautica 35QZ that was on order, but before it arrived it was sold. The next 35QZ they had on order was a 2023 model that was much more expensive than the 2022 models. We decided we needed to purchase now. We will find out during the next week or so if we made the right decision. I think we did.
